Yoshi no Panepon BS Ban (「ヨッシーのパネポンＢＳ版」) is a Downloadable game for the Satellaview that was broadcast in at least 11 runs between November 3, 1996 and June 30, 2000. Yoshi no Panepon BS Ban is based on the puzzle/casual game of Panel de Pon and is a localization of the English-language release Tetris Attack.
Gameplay[]
The gameplay of Yoshi no Panepon BS Ban is substantially similar to that of Pandel de Pon. The basic "puzzle" of the game is arranging blocks so that a row of three or more of the same color would meet, upon which they were disapppear. As in Puyo Puyo, it is possible to do "chains" of multiple block removals. The game ends when one of the blocks reaches the top of the screen. In the VS. modes, the goal of the game is to either force your opponent's blocks to rise to the top, or to simply out-live the opponent as said blocks rise to the top. In this mode, chains can cause additional blocks to fall from the top of the screen and be a nuisance.[1][2]
Emulation history[]
Yoshi no Panepon BS Ban is one of the most common Satellaview games available on the secondary market with frequent auctions on Yahoo Japan Auctions and prices ranging from 7,000 to 10,000 yen. The reason for the common availability of the game is the fact that the game was one of the longest-running titles, lasting all the way through the system's last day. Indeed, Yoshi no Panepon BS Ban was the third to last broadcast ever made for the Satellaview. Furthermore, none of the "game limits" - Digital Rights Management (DRM) solutions employed for other games - have been applied to Yoshi no Panepon BS Ban. For this reason, numerous broadcast versions of the game have been dumped by fans.[3]
Trivia[]
- In the game's options menu is an option to switch character-spoken dialog into English. The English is exactly the same as what was used in Tetris Attack.
